Nebraska EPSCoR The Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (EPSCoR) originated as a grant program at the National Science Foundation (NSF) by an act of Congress in 1978. Nebraska became an EPSCoR state in 1991. Now known as the Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research, its purpose is to assist states to become more competitive for federal research grants by providing strategic research infrastructure investment. EPSCoR/IDeA programs have brought over $408 million to the state since 1991. Nebraska EPSCoR is proud to coordinate YNS programs to grow the state’s STEM resources for greater individual and economic development. YNS The (YNS) program was founded in 2008 to provide exciting STEM enrichment activities for middle and high school students. YNS summer science camps at Nebraska colleges and universities integrate the research themes of current Nebraska EPSCoR grants. At YNS camps, Nebraska students learn through engaging, active-learning style experiences and experience life on a college campus. YNS also sponsors summer research internships in university laboratories for high school students. The high school research program offers students an extended, paid taste of the camaraderie and focus of a university research team. High school researchers work alongside mentors and other members of a research team to accomplish their research tasks.
